7th Grade
Health Education 7 is a required course for all 7th grade students. This class meets every other day for two quarters. Grading for Health 7 is a letter grade with comments. Health 7 is an introduction to Health Education with preliminary information and subject matter. The units of study are bully prevention, self esteem, substance abuse prevention, human growth and development, safety and personal injury and AIDS education. Students practice pro-social skills through interactive lessons, which include cooperative learning, group discussion and technology. The skills of communication, decision-making, advocacy, anger management, stress management, and coping strategies are a part of all units.
8th Grade
Health Education 8 is a required course for all grade 8 students. This class meets daily for two quarters. Grading for Health 8 is a letter grade with comments. The units of study are wellness, mental health, bully prevention, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, disease prevention, relationships, human growth and development, and AIDS education. The skills of communication, decision-making, advocacy, anger management, resistance, stress management, goal setting, and coping are a part of all units. Students practice pro-social skills through interactive lessons which include cooperative learning, group discussion and technology.
Health Skills for Daily Living
Health Skills for Daily Living is an introductory health class designed for students in grades 6-8. This class meets daily and grading is pass/fail.The units of study are personal and family health, safety and injury prevention, nutrition and physical activity, understanding illness, substance abuse, human growth and development, first aid, bully prevention, AIDS education, and environmental awareness. Communication, conflict management, anger management, decision-making, resistance, goal setting, advocacy, resiliency, and empathy are skills students will learn to promote healthy choices and improve personal health and well-being.
